1) PROJECT MOVE OVER Our number one goal and focus is informing and educating the public about the “Move Over Law.”  Each year the lives of law enforcement, emergency and public service personnel are put in danger by motorists who are not giving them the space to work.  As a result the men and women who we asked to serve and protect us are being injured or killed.  With education, lives will be saved.  Our lives depend on it.

2) ROADWAY SAFETY Rumble strips have been installed throughout the United States on many interstates and primary highways. FORS will work with USDOT and other agencies to assist all states in improving the safety of their roadsides.  Rumble strips as well as four Emergency Roadside Areas (ERA’s) have been installed in Haywood County, NC as the result of our efforts and work with NCDOT.  We will work with NCDOT to study their effectiveness for future installations of ERA’s across North Carolina and encourage other states to do the same.

3) LEGISLATION…As a result of our continuous work with North Carolina legislators, the Move Over Law wasamended to ensure the utmost safety for all law enforcement and emergency personnel. The amended law added DOT IMAP vehicles, emergency removal vehicles (towers) and public service vehicles along with higher fines and penalties for those who violate the law. Today, Move Over Laws are on the books in 42 states.  Several other states currently have legislation pending.  In addition, many of the 42 states are going back to amend their original laws to include higher fines and peanlties as well as adding tow truck operators if they were not included in the original law.  To view AAA’s list of Move Over Laws, visit our Move Over Laws page.

4) EDUCATION…Among other projects, we will continue our education efforts in high schools, truck driving schools and any other available venue in order to protect those who protect us.
